Specific privacy statement

As any other European Institution, the European Commission is subject to specific legal obligations concerning the protection of personal data and their processing. These obligations are described in Regulation (EC) No 45/2001 (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/pri/en/oj/dat/2001/l_008/l_00820010112en00010022.pdf) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data.

Any personal information you provide to FP7-4-SD.EU will be held securely, and your personal details will not be disclosed to third parties. We will disclose information we maintain when required doing so by law, for example in response to a court order. We may also disclose information in response to a legitimate request from an official law enforcement agency (e.g. the police, or an investigating magistrate).

We have put in place, and we regularly review and update, appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to help prevent unauthorized access, to maintain data security, and to safeguard correct usage of the information we collect on-line.

Although we take appropriate measures to safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot guarantee that personally identifiable information will never be disclosed in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Notice.

FP7-4-SD.EU has set up a number of automatic checking systems (e.g. if an e-mail address provided no longer exists) that may indicate when particular registered user appears to no longer be making use of the service. In the event such a case is detected, we will make every effort to contact the concerned registered user before deleting this information, but FP7-4-SD.EU reserves the right to delete personal information records, and associated service and access rights, that appear to be no longer in use and/or valid.

Log files

Log files allow us to record visitors’ use of the site. FP7-4-SD.EU puts together log file information from all of our visitors, which we use to improve our understanding of user needs and behaviour patterns, and consequently make improvements in the site layout and information it contains, based on the way that visitors move around it. Log files do not contain any personal information about you.

User registration

Visitors who want to use the interactive parts of FP7-4-SD.EU are asked to register individually and to log into the system. Registered users may submit their feedback on screening results, enter their opinion on the expected impacts and explain on which sources or evidence their expectations are based. To enter into a high level discussion, we ask you to enter your name and organisation. In order to improve the functionality of the database and adapt it to the needs of its users, we track the analyses you use, the filter options you prefer and the graphs and tables that are downloaded the most. This information is kept in strict confidentiality and is only analysed in an aggregated and anonymous form.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file created in your computer by an Internet site to store information, such as your preferences when visiting that site. However, a website has access only to the personally identifiable information that you yourself provide, the website cannot use a cookie to gain access to other information on your computer. Once a cookie is saved on your computer, only the website that created the cookie can read it

FP7-4-SD.EU uses only session cookies, which are active only during your current browsing session, and are deleted from your computer when you close your browser. We do not use persistent cookies which remain there when you close your browser. No use is made of cookies by FP7-4-SD.EU to gather any personal information about you. Any personal information you provide (e.g. by registering to use certain services) is not connected with cookies, is solely for use by the FP7-4-SD.EU service, and will not be communicated to third parties.

Most internet browsers allow you to choose whether to allow some, none, or all cookies to be saved on your computer. Please check the "Help" feature provided within your browser to understand your available options and how they are managed. If you do not allow any cookies, you may not be able to use FP7-4-SD.EU.
